The Case Banner Photo

On March 14, 2014, @ElkFest on Twitter released the requirements for the 48 Hour film challenge. We had to use a suitcase as a prominent prop, and the line “You can’t handle the truth”. (It’s corny, we know)

So on Friday afternoon our team started brainstorming, and we came up with what we thought was a great idea. It was a great idea. So Nick Clark (from Future Curve Films) and I sat down to hash out a script/outline that evening, and we were really happy with it.

On Saturday, we ate breakfast, went over the outline, and then assembled the gear we had. I had brought my T3i with Magic Lantern, a Canon VIXIA HD camcorder, ZOOM H1 for audio, as well as a FM wireless lavaliere mic, also a light bounce which we ended up not needing because the sky was perfectly overcast. We probably spent a cumulative 2 or 3 hours filming, and then I took the cameras and the H1 to our editing bay to offload the footage and audio clips. That night, I began editing. I was really happy with the footage we got. It looked great, and I was able to match the DSLR footage with the footage from the camcorder pretty well. The only issue was that we didn’t get enough coverage on one scene. It was a pretty lengthy scene, so we should have gotten more shots of it, but all that we had were 2 different camera angles of the same shot. So that scene is just a little bit dry in terms of camera shot options in my opinion.

Here is the video that was edited within the 48 hours, and here is the directors cut that was refined after the submission. Hope you enjoy them!
